Professor Liam Heneghan will speak about the relationship of famed author Tolkien and his relationship with trees as shown in his novels.
Liam Heneghan, environmental science professor at DePaul University and author of Beasts at Bedtime: Revealing Environmental Wisdom in Children’s Literature, will discuss the relationship between J.R.R. Tolkien and trees. Learn how Tolkien was motivated by concerns about the British countryside when he created his Lord of the Rings trilogy. This program compliments the Library’s tree-inspired art installation by Chicago artist Jeremiah Hulsebos-Spoffird.
This program is presented in connection with Time Capsule for the trees, a tree-inspired art installation opening at the Library on Arbor Day.
