Celebrate International Compost Awareness Week

Join Kay McKeen of SCARCE to dig into the basics of composting and learn why composting is a simple and affordable way to fight climate change while reducing your garbage and restoring your soil.

You will learn the do’s and don’ts of at-home composting, how to set up your bin, and tips for troubleshooting things like unpleasant odors. Already compost at home? Get answers to your compost questions to fine tune your composting skills.

Compost can create a nutrient-rich soil amendment and providing fertile soil is a great way to ensure success when growing any plant, whether it is a seed from the HPL Seed Library, or a seedling from the local nursery.

Kay McKeen started SCARCE (formerly SCRAP) in 1990 with the mission of helping people discover how easy it can be to make a meaningful difference...for our kids, for our environment, for our future. Through SCARCE, she teaches in DuPage County schools about recycling and other environmental issues and concerns.
